How Is A Return To Sports Program Different Than Traditional Physical Therapy?
If you are an athlete that is looking to get back to high-level movement that involves running, sprinting, cutting, jumping, quick change of direction, and compound movements like snatches, then you need more than traditional physical therapy.
Our team of highly trained sports physical therapists understand the demands of sports and most importantly, how to get you back to feeling game-ready! Whether you’re coming to us after an ankle sprain or an ACL reconstruction, a return to sports program is essential for preventing future re-injury.
The main goal in traditional physical therapy is to make sure you are functional in daily living. This means being able to walk, go up and down stairs, bend over and lift up moderately heavy objects like groceries. Obviously if you are an athlete looking to get back to sport or working out, just being able to walk and navigate stairs isn’t enough!
If you’re a basketball player, expect to be working on sprinting, hand-eye coordination drills, and change of direction drills to master stability and speed on the court. For tennis players, we prioritize strengthening athletes in a rotational plane, lateral shuffling motions, and pillar and trunk stability for strong serves. Volleyball players need to learn how to land jumps, master change of direction and agility, all while focusing on ball play.
