Benefits of Youth Strength Conditioning

A well designed and supervised strength training program actually is good for young athletes boasting a ton of benefits:

  • – Builds strong ligaments 
  • – Builds strong tendons 
  • – Increases strength without getting bulky
  • – Increases speed
  • – Improved coordination
  • – Better power output
  • – Builds bone density
  • – Injury avoidance / decrease in severity
  • – Weight loss 
 
The scare about growth plate fractures and stunted growth have not been found in research done on well designed and supervised training programs.  
 

A big part of any program for kids should involve the following:

 

  • – It should be fun
  • – The kids should want to participate
  • – There should be a proper warm up and cool down
  • – The focus should first be on skill development and good form
  • – There should always be a qualified trainer leading the training to ensure safety
  • – The workouts should change and be modified with appropriate progressions made to avoid burnout and boredom.
